This is a blogg from "ower there". I got some really nice stuff from a friend of mine. Per Johansson, in the early beginning from Arvidsjaur, went to the states for work, end up on Wall Street making a carreer. After that he moved closer to the mountains and now he has two children racing with team STC. Per Johansson is still going strong in Masters in US and I really hope we will meet in the future competing in some international races. Would be great! World Master Championship 2013 in North America, maybe!
Pers daughter, Isabella Johansson, is what we call it in Sweden, a "C1a" and here below you find a clip from one of her races. Start the clip and count 1 minut and 35 sekonds and she will appear.
I think she skies very good with good angles! She also manage to be strong in her turns and she makes good speed out of it. Her height is 135 cm and she skies a Atomic-ski that is 165 cm with 17,5 m radius. I think that is close to maximum for a C1 but in some how she manage to do nice turns and gain speed. Her boot is an 70 flex Technica.
In the US the chlildren of her age trains approx. 10-20 % in courses and the rest is freeskiing. I found that interesting! The racingseason includes five (5) groundraces whereof two are Giant slalom, one is a "kombi", one is an parallell with GS gates and one Giant slalom with 15 meters distans. I think also this is interesting! The best of this groundseries manage to go to the eastcoust-finals in Vermont.
In many other countries they train more GS and more freeskiing then we do in Sweden. I think this is something we should discuss when we are trying to learn our kids to ski. Look att the World Cup, Sweden is far away from the top in GS! Its a sign!
